Will I need Planning Permission?
Loft conversions usually fall under the permitted development category so planning permission will not normally be required. However, there are some exceptions where planning permission will need to be sought, for example, if you live in a listed building or a conservation area, or your conversion is over a certain size. You do not need to worry about this as we will guide you through the whole process.
Will my loft meet Building Regulations?
Yes. All loft conversions require building regulation approval from the local authority. Our experts give due consideration to all the requirements of the regulations in the preparation of the plans, as well as monitoring the construction during the course of the work, thus ensuring they receive a completion certificate upon final completion of the conversion.
Can I convert a loft with a shallow or an unusual roof?
If you have a shallow or an unusual roof, it might still be possible to convert your loft just will be more complex to do it. Contact us to discuss the possibility of your loft conversion.
Can you do a loft conversion in a bungalow?
Bungalow has the same options for converting the loft as in a two-storey home.
Do I need neighbours agreement for my loft conversion?
You might need Party Wall agreement if your loft conversion will need building work to a party wall that sits astride a boundary. Party Wall agreements need to be signed with all neighbours who share that party wall with you.
Can Neighbours stop loft conversion?
Most of the time, neighbours cannot stop the loft conversion from going ahead but they can certainly cause delays and stress in the process, do everything you can to keep them on your side and you'll save yourself a headache.
Am I allowed to have a WC in my loft conversion?
Yes, the building regulations have been relaxed slightly and you can have a WC anywhere in the house as long as it has ventilation and a sink.
What will happen to my existing loft hatch?
The existing loft hatch will be blocked off, made secure and plastered.
